Meet Andrew
I’m Andrew Edtl — a father, neighbor, and board member who wants what every parent wants: strong schools, great teachers, and safe, supportive classrooms. With four children in Canyons schools, I see firsthand how important it is to protect the opportunities that help students thrive.
I chose to serve on the Board of Education because I believe every student deserves an excellent education close to home, and every educator deserves the support to do their best work. That principle guides every decision I make.
Commitment to Education
My dedication to service stretches far beyond the school board. Over the years, I’ve worked to strengthen our community and support the families who call it home.
I’ve been a job coach for refugees, helping new Utahns gain stability and confidence. I served as a Scoutmaster, teaching leadership and service to young people. I’ve been a state and county delegate, precinct chair, and legislative chair — roles focused on listening to neighbors and keeping families engaged in the decisions that affect them.
Through the Military Youth Ambassador program, I’ve helped connect Utah families with students from Morocco, building friendships and cultural exchange that broaden perspectives and bring communities together.
Each of these experiences has taught me the same lesson: strong communities are built when people show up, listen, and work together. That belief shapes the way I serve on the Board of Education.
Professional Experience
For more than twenty years, I’ve served in the Utah Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve. My work has taken me from supporting emergency response efforts here at home to helping build international partnerships abroad.
Some of the most meaningful experiences of my career have been in North Africa, working alongside Moroccan and American medical teams to provide care for families in need. These missions were about far more than healthcare — they were about trust, collaboration, and strengthening relationships across cultures.
Throughout my service, I’ve learned how to lead teams, manage complex projects, and find solutions in challenging environments. I bring those same skills to the Board of Education: persistence, clear communication, and a commitment to service.
Education & Training
I earned my Bachelor of Science from Western Governors University and later completed an MBA at Westminster University. My own educational journey has reinforced my belief that when learning is purposeful and well-supported, the future opens wide. That’s the kind of experience I want for every student in Canyons.
Looking Ahead
My focus remains simple: keep students at the center.
That means supporting our teachers, planning responsibly for the future, and making sure every child — no matter their background, neighborhood, or path — has the opportunity to succeed.
As we look ahead, I’ll continue listening to families, working closely with educators, and making thoughtful, data-driven decisions to keep Canyons schools safe, stable, and full of opportunity for every student.
